Concentration on secondary grades (6-12)

INTRODUCTION

President's Introduction

With the things I hear and see around me, I am appalled at the perception of education in our country.  Education is primarily seen as a way of “getting a better job.”  In my experience, it is rare to see youth with a genuine interest in learning and using the facts, ideas, and concepts they learn in our  schools.  The goal of this project is to inform readers of how education is a living, working part of our everyday lives.  I highlight the significance of using what we learn in school, finding a genuine interest in learning, and even the importance and failings of standardized testing.  The way to get students interested in school, their grades, and their education is to for them to understand its importance and how it can be used in their life.

Articles on this website include a variety of topics.  From defining the meaning of an education to finding practical uses of chemistry to excelling on the SATs.  The intention is to teach the idea that education (or learning) is not an isolated process in life. Life and education are not two totally different things.  This projects connects education in school, world, lifestyle, and career.

This project is geared toward teaching those who encounter it the meaning of education, its value, importance, and its wonders.  It is also an attempt to help improve the condition of public school education as well as the attitudes of education by adults and youth.  Learning and schooling is an incredibly exciting, vital, and enjoyable part of our lives.  With the information and links contained on this website I intend to elevate the importance of education.

The contents on this website are directed toward secondary education (grades 6-12). Included are sections and articles on elementary and higher education as they relate to secondary level education.  The reason I chose secondary education as the base of my project is because there are already dozens of well-paid individuals who work toward better higher education, and elementary education.  Secondary education seems to be a place where change and improvement in our students achievement and attitudes is difficult to change.  Secondary-level education is also the essential place to make meaning of the subjects that we study many times in isolation: math, science, English, and social studies, etc.  Look for concentration on secondary education in the articles on this website.
